Landfill Diversion & Waste Separation at Source

November 13November 14

On-line – Microsoft Teams.

CPD points.

Overview

Rapid urbanization and industrial growth have intensified waste generation, placing enormous pressure on landfills and ecosystems. The urgent need for waste diversion and separation at source has become a cornerstone of sustainable waste management.

This two-day intensive workshop equips participants with practical strategies, regulatory insights, and innovative tools to design and implement waste diversion systems that reduce landfill dependence, cut operational costs, and promote a circular economy.

Participants will explore real-world case studies, learn to apply the waste hierarchy, and understand how to integrate waste-to-energy and recycling initiatives in compliance with the National Environmental Management: Waste Act (NEMWA) and the latest national waste management strategy.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, participants will be able to

Develop and implement waste separation at source programs for industrial, municipal, and community levels.

Understand and apply the three R’s (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) within a circular economy framework.

Interpret and comply with recent legislative amendments in waste management.

Design systems for waste-to-energy conversion and landfill diversion.

Conduct landfill capacity analyses and phased implementation planning.

Identify funding, incentives, and partnerships for sustainable waste projects.

Evaluate and mitigate environmental risks associated with landfills.
